Things you can do

This page intends to serve as a hub for current campaigns on the many issues Made in L.A. deals with: immigration, fair labor, women's rights, economic justice, organizing, etc. If you'd like to have your campaign be posted in this page, or want to let us know about campaigns we should add to the site, please contact us with your contact info, the campaign information and website link.

1. Be a more conscious consumer and support sweat-free businesses.

➢ Shop with a concience. Join the consumer movement to buy goods made under fair labor conditions! Some anti-sweatshop organizations (including Sweatshop Watch, Sweatfree Communities and the International Labor Rights Forum) have compiled this shopping guide, representing a sampling of sweatshop-free apparel products currently available on the market. And don't miss the Sweatshop Hall of Fame, featuring apparel companies that have consistently flouted labor laws and basic worker protections.

➢ Get active in the sweatfree movement. You can bring the campaign to your community -make sure your business, religious group, school, city council, or state government commits to buying products made in fair labor conditions and holds companies accountable to improve conditions in sweatshops currently in their supply chains. Apparel companies will only change their sweatshop practices if we create a market for sweatfree products and services! Take action:
- Send a letter to your governor and mayor asking them to join the State and Local Government Sweatfree Consortium to ensure that your public tax dollars do not support sweatshop conditions
- Learn how your community can help end sweatshops.
- Endorse the campaign
- Contact SweatFree Communities to bring the campaign to your community
-Check out this list of anti-sweatshop groups and contact them to help make change!

2. Educate yourself about immigration policy in the United States and take action.

Visit the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy's online Multimedia Library or its blog for podcast, video clips and other resources featuring commentary from federal judges, expert analysis and legislative developments related to immigration policy. To dig deeper, visit ACS ResearchLink for a list of immigration-related topics recommended for student scholarship.

Get the latest information about immigrant rights campaigns around the country, share your thoughts and be a part of FIRM’s growing online community. FIRM is a grassroots national coalition for immigrant rights committed to providing resources, peer-to-peer learning ops and tools in the fight for social justice.

Download the Unity Blueprint for Immigration Reform, created by dozens of organizations including the AFL-CIO, CHIRLA, Sweatshop Watch and many others.

Join the Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CCIR), a collaborative developed by national and local community, immigrant, labor and policy leaders. Based in Washington, DC, the mission and central purpose of the CCIR is to pass progressive comprehensive immigration reform. CCIR is working in the "Ya Es Hora campaign" to help all those who are eligible for citizenship navigate the application process.

3.
Get involved in community organizing and social justice efforts.

We at Made in L.A. believe it is important and necessary to make an impact as an individual. Whether joining an organization or participating in a current boycott, struggle, or social action, donating to a cause, or helping to spread the word, there are a myriad of things you can do to be part of the solution. We encourage you to contact local community and campus organizations to learn how you can get involved locally. For a list of some organizations in the US and many other resources please visit our learn more page.
